Thread: My SE has 'gone tech'!

    My SE has 'gone tech'!

    After weeks of negativity around here is it any wonder that my SE has itself gone tech after a 12 months faithful service?? Yesterday afternoon I noticed the watch had stopped so I reset the time and hand wound it which got it going again, I was puzzled but not unduly concerned till this afternoon, 24 hours later, when the watch again stopped and this time stayed dead - its jiggered!

    I will contact Henley tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar?

    Sorry to hear about this Gavin.
    Are you sure it hasn't just lost power reserve from lying motionless on that sun lounger for too long??

    Gavin, really sorry to hear that. As far as SE's go, Jeff(G-F) had issues with his SE, namely the rotor, but I don't recall other with any issues. Keep us posted on what your hear!

    Just back from a days outing to London - collected my SE from Mayfair and much enjoyed meeting up again with Paul from the City branch who was helping Rudy the manager - at South Audley street - man the boutique. According to the paperwork my watch had various parts replaced / upgraded but I am still none the wiser as to why it stopped working, I will try to get some answers and report back.

    While there I was given a copy of QP magazine, issue 68, which carries a fascinating interview with Nick and Giles - their ambitions are laid bare with the construction of a 25,000 sq. ft factory which will open next December, equipped with state of the art high precision CNC machines from Germany, this is a significant investment and their aim is to produce 20-30K watches per year. Before they ramp up production I do hope they sort out these niggling QC issues which we have been hearing about recently! The good news is that they are also investing in staff including a Swiss movement designer, I have no doubt that Bremont will soon have the capability to turn out genuine 'in house' movements but quite why this holy grail of horology is so important no one has been able to tell me. Having flown aeroplanes for the best part of 40 years I have not once flown a plane that has had an engine made by the company that also produced the airframe - it worries me not!



    Thanks to Rudy for the photo and for the champagne of which I consumed more than enough! Only with good fortune was I able to depart the boutique without having first purchased the cream ALT1-C with Crazy Horse strap that I so lust after - for another day!

    Thanks for the report back, Gavin! Fantastic photo of you on the MB seat. Glad to hear you had a great visit.

    The news about the HQ expansion and new equipment and personnel. We know that Bremont have a roadmap to achieving the goal of creating a fully British watch and movement, its just going to take time, capital, careful planning!

    I can't wait to visit the American Boutique when it opens!

    I too, was at the Mayfair Boutique last week, we were in London visiting friends and celebrating their first Thanksgiving since moving. I had an opportunity to meet Rudy, he was fantastic and I purchased a vintage brown strap for my ALT1-C. They were great hosts offering lemonade to my 6 yr. old son and letting him sit in the MB Seat. He loved all the old photos on the wall and was asking questions about the planes. Rudy gave my son a Bremont hat which he wore the rest of the night. Great experience in customer service and kinship in talking watches. Rudy showed me a Leander model they had behind the bar, and I had a hard time controlling myself, that is a beautiful watch. My wife thought it was a great looking as well.

    Overall, if you have an opportunity to visit a Boutique, it is fantastic experience and the Bremont Team is really passionate about what they do. I cannot wait for the New York location to open.

    Superb write up, Gavin! I've not visited either boutique in a good few months - glad to hear that Paul is still manning the station!

    Also: your aircraft point - I can't think of one either. And, like you say, it doesn't worry me one bit!

    I was delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the Mayfair boutique and that your son did not come away empty handed. I totally agree with your comment about the commitment that the staff have to the brand, it really is first class! I too look forward to the opening of the boutique in NYC, it will be another attraction for me to visit on my next trip 'across the pond' I was there last year but was unable to see some of the attractions on my list, The Statute of Liberty and Ellis Island being but two, closed due the storm damage caused previously and not yet repaired. We did however participate in the Easter Parade which was a great success.
