    Late go-around at Barcelona airport

I hope none of you are scared of flying or of nervous disposition!! This is what can happen if you enter an active runway without first checking that the approach is clear - thankfully no one was hurt or killed but it could have been much much worse had visibility been poor. At least two people had their wits about them that day!!

I had a go-around a while back at Heathrow when the plane in front of ours overshot his exit point on the runway and our captain decided to abort.
Bit disconcerting, felt a bit like a theme park ride, but that video could have been a major disaster!

Nothing too bad - he would have been clearance subject to the traffic.

Remember been cleared to land at Mccarran (Vegas) with an aircraft lined up to take-off. Needless to say we went around. VFR...

That's the point, perhaps they do things differently in America, the Captain will doubtless tell us - I thought it was general practice not to give a landing clearance if an aircraft is still on the runway! In this case I assume air traffic expected the Argentinian aircraft to hold short?

That's right Gavin, I would expect the landing Airbus was cleared to land first while 76 was told " Behind the 767 on short final, lineup runaway 02, behind"

The second "behind" was added in last couple of months to try and make this even more explicit!

Having said that, I feel sorry for the pilot of 767 as sometimes you hear what you expect to hear and this could possibly be a career ender.

The taxiing aircraft will be violated; he was given hold-short instructions and disobeyed. The landing aircraft had the right of way.

"Having said that, I feel sorry for the pilot of 767 as sometimes you hear what you expect to hear and this could possibly be a career ender."

That's why we always have to read back hold short instructions. No one likes when this happens, but it's for safety.
