I don't know if its the Faraday cage (a la MBII/U2), its hardcore 2000 meter water resistance rating, or its 45mm Trip-Tick stainless steel case, but I don't like the Bremont Supermarine 2000. That's because I love it! And as watch enthusiasts tend to do when they love a particular timepiece, they purchase it. So that's exactly what I did. I called my favorite authorized Bremont dealer, Dan at Timeless Watch Exchange, and proceeded to order this amazing watch from him. Dan is just a pleasure to deal with, and this is my third Bremont acquisition and fourth overall watch purchase from Timeless. I have owned a total of 5 Bremonts (I currently own three—the MBII/OR, ALT1-WT/BL, and now the SM2000—all of which I purchased from Timeless), and I have to say that the SM2000 hands down is my favorite Bremont of all (even more than my dearly departed P-51).
With that said, here are some of the highlights of the SM2000 that I found to be personally appealing, especially as compared with the SM2000's predecessor, the SM500.
Let me start off by saying that I am so glad that Bremont decided to make this a 45mm diver, a much improved upgrade over the 43mm SM500. I love a bigger watch, and the sweet spot for me is a 44-45mm piece, so Bremont hit the nail right on the head with this one. The SM2000 is truly built like a tank, but without being overbearing or unnecessary. The watch strikes a perfect utilitarian balance with incredibly attractive and pleasing aesthetics. In short, I can't stop looking at the dial. What you get, then, is a clean, legible dial with subtle, yet striking, red accents, which I particularly love. The red on the bezel, dial, and seconds hand helps perfectly enhance the SM2000's wrist presence and lovely aesthetics. The hands are especially clear and legible thanks to their classic design and copious amount of SuperLumiNova coating.
As compared to the SM500, let me start with the engraving on the back. On the back, we see a side view of the Supermarine plane. The side profile displayed on the SM2000 is much cleaner (and cooler) than the head-on, front view displayed on the caseback of the SM500.

The SM500 gave us a 500 meter water resistance rating. We get more water resistance with the SM2000—in fact, a lot more water resistance. Achieving a 2000 meter water resistance rating while keeping the case thickness at a manageable size is design and overengineering at its best done in true Bremont form and fashion. Speaking of overengineering, you also get antimagnetic and anti-shock protection in the form of a Faraday cage and Bremont's protective patented anti-shock movement mount, respectively.
The SM2000 still carries the sapphire crystal inlay around the bezel as found on the SM500, making the bezel highly scratch resistant.
The lume is strong and long-lasting, and helps enhance the SM2000's legibility even when not activated. The bezel, dial markers, and seconds hand are lumed bluish/green.
The SM2000 uses the same very comfortable, durable, and excellent quality rubber strap as found on the SM500. The strap wraps and hugs perfectly around my 6.75 inch wrist, and complements this watch incredibly well. On wrist, the watch is comfortable and stays in place, even with excessive hand/wrist movement.
Talk about watch porn; here is the obligatory wrist shot:
I absolutely love this new SM2000, and I highly recommend it either as an upgrade from the SM500 or as a formidable diver watch that can easily stand up against the competition. For those that are considering other brands, take a look at the SM2000. You will not be sorry with your purchase. Bremont has truly outdone themselves this time. They pushed the limits and created a tool timepiece with both style and substance, especially in a watch world in which many other brands have either one or the other (or none at all). The SM2000 is a keeper, and it's a timepiece that makes me smile everytime I look at it to see what time it is.
