Bremont watch wearer and Olympic torchbearer, Kenton Cool will be climbing Mount Everest in May and by taking an Olympic gold medal with him, will be fulfilling a pledge that was made over 80 years ago.

In 1922, a group of explorers made the attempt to climb Everest but failed - However they all received Olympic gold medals for their efforts. After being awarded medals, one of the climbers swore that the next time he would climb he’d take his medal and leave it at the top of Everest - However this promise was never fulfilled.

After numerous failed attempts over the years, now 88 years later Kenton will be taking one of these original medals with him.

Having climbed Everest 9 times already, when planning for his 10th climb of the iconic mountain, Cool came across the story of the pledge to take one of the medals, which given that the London 2012 Olympics are only round the corner makes this all the more relevant.

The medal he will be taking, belongs to Charles Wakefield who is grandson of Dr. Wakefield one of the original team from 1922.

I’m sure that helping Kenton in his quest will be his trust Silver Bremont SM500 and on behalf of all the members of ALT1TUDE I’d like to wish Kenton the best of luck with his tenth attempt.
