View Full Version : Disposable Income - What Do You Spend It On?

As per the title really - what do you spend your hard earned on? Is it vehicles, holidays, supporting kids etc?

No need for explicit details unless you feel comfortable disclosing them on a public forum, I'm more interested in the potential diversity of people's hobbies.

And please - watches are already assumed so no need to say so :D

To kick off, I like sporty hatchbacks (and I'm over 40, so no "boy racer" comments ;)), holidays and (as my waistline will attest to) good food.

Sadly I have always been better at spending money than earning it! :-(

Classic cars, Hi-Fi and aircraft have always been a bottomless pits for me. As for cars I have always regarded these as being something to be used and enjoyed rather than seen as an investment. Having said that classic car prices have certainly firmed up over here recently, in large part as a foil to the low interest rates available from the banks.

Apart from my kids (twin 6 year old girls) that cost me a fortune, I tend to spend my money on gadgets (currently loving Sonos having just got a Playbar) or on my other main obsession...cycling. I have a mountain bike and a road bike which I seem to spend a small fortune on but they're great exercise and cheaper/more enjoyable than a gym!

For me I have new car disease! I got this from my dad! He bought his last new car the month before he had his final heart attack, leaning over the seat of his new car! His last breath was new car smell! I have lost more money trading up to another new car than I want to know! Plus one new car is not enough! My only saving grace has been I have a good job that feeds this addiction! Right behind cars comes watches! I am lucky that they don't cost as much, at least the tool watches that feed my addiction! Well guys that is my money pit! Hi my name is Jim and I am an addict!!! Cheers. http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx248/YELO911/1e55283d2a5e26cacd7008b74b26663c.jpg

Mrs. RMM wants a pergola that may very well knock out the disposable income for the foreseeable future. :(

Disposable income? What's that?
My house has bled me dry over the past couple of years, just put a contemporary extension on the back of a period Edwardian property,

I also have a wife and 2 year old 2 run, expensive tastes in whisky and home cinema too. Oh and watches, lots and lots of watches.
No wonder I'm skint!

I'm trying very hard to save up for an extension to our house a the moment, but when I can swerve some funds under the net? Honestly? Wine, whiskey, and comic books.

Yes, I'll admit it. I'm 37 and I dig PS3 games, rock music, and comics. It's like I'm 17 again! The wife doesn't mind too much on the basis that, if this is my midlife crisis, at least it's not a sports a and affair!

I'm a fast car nut!

Here's is a picture of a 6R4 I had. Looks like a kit car - but its one helluva car. 4wd - 420bhp - 1000kgs. Fastest thing I've owned. Current car is a c63 AMG Coupe and Defender! Looking to sell the LR for something - maybe another LR!

Turn the sound up and listen to that engine. It was developed by TWR for Jaguar XJ220 by adding a turbocharger!

That 6r4 is amazing, massive old school rally car fan, keep telling myself I should buy an intergrale as a weekend toy before they all disappear / end up WAY out of my price range.

After realising I shouldn't have sold it - I bought this 2.5 litre engine screamer!

But sold it very quickly after - as it was unsuitable with a dog box for the road.

If I could find another for sensible money would buy one!

This was before I bought it from John Price.

Integrale another great car. Money no object - would collect them all Pug 205 T16 - TR8 - Lancia S4.

RS200 for me. Got to sit in one once, but as they are now selling at well over 100k it'll take a lottery win before I own one!

Lovely 6R4 by the way. Group B was crazy, and it was a shame it was all over so quickly. Can you imagine the cars if Group B was still running today?

Nice Porsche, I'd love a Boxster S one day. The best car I've owned for performance was a Focus RS - shame the interior didn't match the engine! Had it for three years and still miss it occasionally.

Really like the RS Focus - had an Orange ST for a while.

Had this monster too - one of those I should have kept.

Not familiar with that one, but the GTR is an absolute beast from what I've seen and read! Must have been hard to let go!

Thanks buddy. Being bussed home now as it happens! Still very early days, lots to think about, but first up is getting mended. Then.... New bike...? Maybe. That'll be a big discussion with the wife!

Bremont and Bristol at the Prescott hill climb, a fine combination although it helps if you own your own oil well!

Thanks for the compliment! Being aircraft manufacturers Bristol were very good at using space and aluminium. People are often fascinated by the two hinged (but concealed) panels aft of the front wheels, one one side you have a compartment for the battery and twin brake servos while on the other is stowage for the spare wheel and jack - as a consequence you get quite a roomy boot!
